Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Francisco, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.

San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around San Francisco is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

While exploring Japantown in SF, we came across this authentic udon restaurant and were so happy we decided to wait. There was about a 30β40 minute wait on a Saturday, but it was well worth it. The restaurant has such a comfortable atmosphere with warm lighting and beautiful wooden features. They even have a little window where you can watch the cooks making fresh, handmade noodles, which was such a fun touch. The service was exceptional, with helpful recommendations and great timing throughout our meal. We ordered the yuzu cocktails, mentai cream udon, and tempura udon, and everything was delicious and tasted incredibly fresh. You could really tell that a lot of care went into each dish. We had such a great experience and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend stopping by if youβre in Japantown and looking for a really good bowl of authentic udon.

Fully and wholly the best tokatsu udon Iβve ever eaten. Ideal place for family lunch or takeaway. Servers were courteous and willing to give recommendations. Highly recommend our server, Jane! Best menu items: Takoyaki (appetizer), Tempura Curry Udon, Kitsune Udon, Katsudon Udon, and Regular Curry Udon. Great options for sake, beer, and non alcoholic drinks as well.

Fantastic Japanese udon specialty restaurant in Japantown SF! We ordered the Mentaiko Cream Udon and the Tonkotsu Udon. Iβd heard about their Mentaiko Cream Udon for the longest time, itβs one of their signature dishes and honestly, it absolutely lives up to the hype! Incredibly creamy and flavorful without feeling heavy or greasy at all. Tonkotsu Udon was okay. First impression, it was very filling with generous toppings like chashu, shrimp tempura, a soy-marinated egg and veggies. However, the broth wasnβt particularly impressive, if Iβm being honest. It seems like the toppings saved the dishes, they're delicious, but that's all it offers. Next time Iβll definitely just order the Mentaiko Cream Udon. Itβs absolutely scrumptious and seriously addictive! They almost always have a waitlist, but you can join it online about 15 minutes before you arrive. I did that, and the whole dining experience was smooth and hassle-free.

Food was fantastic. Great udon dishes and crispy onigiri bites (appetizer). The agedashi tofu was too big and wasn't crunchy enough; if it was half of the size, it'd have been better. Premium chashu could use some searing to enhance the flavor. Our server, Janny, was amazing. She greeted us with enthusiasm and took time to explain the menu very well.

Busy Udon restaurant in the Japan Center in Japantown SF on the 2nd floor. We put our name down on the Yelp waitlist and the wait was only about 30 minutes for Sunday during lunch. Our waitress Jane was extremely helpful and pointed out the most popular items as well as the most popular and recommended ways to customize some dishes. Jane also checked in with us regularly to make sure everything was to our liking and made sure our water cups were always filled! We ordered: - Assorted Tempura: This came with shrimp, squid, broccoli, eggplant, sweet potato, and pumpkin tempura. I enjoyed their light and crispy batter, was a generous portion for 2 people. - Mentai Cream Sauce Udon: So good, full of cream and cheese, very umami. Our waitress recommended to add a poached egg on top which made it even more rich!! Definitely would get this next time too. Perfectly cooked udon! - Nabeyaki Udon: This had a very light broth but I felt it had too many toppings in it, wish it had less chicken pieces. But broth was good and noodles were perfect too. Next time I would like to try the Tonkatsu Deluxe Udon or the Kitsune Udon!
